What is Usenet?

Usenet is a worldwide network of servers for exchanging messages and files, organised in newsgroups. Read more in our guide to getting started with Usenet.

What do I need to download from Usenet?

You need three things: a Usenet provider such as Hitnews, an NZB client such as SABnzbd, and an indexer to find NZB files. See getting started with Usenet.

What is an NZB file?

An NZB file lists all the parts that together make up a download. Your NZB client uses it to fetch every part from the server. See getting started with Usenet.

Which server settings do I use?

Server news.hitnews.com, port 563 or 443 with SSL (recommended) or port 119 without SSL, and up to 100 connections. Log in with your Hitnews username and password.

How do I set up SABnzbd?

Do I need a VPN?
